REST (Representational State Transfer)

(contributed by Hugo Haas and Thomas Erl)

|
REST (Representational State Transfer) is an architectural style for distributed hypermedia systems. It is a formal definition of core design principles of the World Wide Web and the HTTP/1.1 protocol and advocates a design approach for constructing distributed systems based on the notion of resources.

REST provides an alternative implementation medium for the creation of services comprised of service-oriented logic.

The creation of REST services in support of SOA and service-oriented computing is being explored in the book "SOA with REST" (see www.soabooks.com for more information).
